Graphics -------- Mathematica X Front End is a very graphics oriented software. You type in an equation and resulting graph is displayed almost instantaneously. All graphics output comes from the Mathematica kernel in form of PostScript output. Actually, it comes in form of PostScript code to the Front End. Which then creates a screen image from this code. You can edit this PostScript code by turning off the Formatted attribute for the cell containing the graphic. Mathematica X Front End also provides a way for Graphical input. Refer to 'Getting Started' in "User's Guide: For the X Front End". Mathematica also allows for animated graphics. You use sequences of graphics cells as frames in a "movie". To see the "movie", select sequence of cells, then choose 'Animate Selected Graphics' from the 'Graph' menu. The movie is produced by showing the selected cells in rapid succession. You try this and other neat tricks in the 'Graph' sub-menu. For documentation, refer to the online help, or the manual "User's Guide: For the X Front End". The manual will be available in EGR Rm 0123 (Lab). You should ask the consultant on duty to let you use the book in the lab.
