Opening files in Mathematica ---------------------------- Click on the 'File' menu, and then click on 'Open' to open a new notebook. You can also open text(ascii) files in Mathematica following the same procedure as above. You can also open EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) file following the same procedure as above. The notebook opened will be a single PostScript graphics cell. You can also open files from other applications. Doing so requires some in-depth knowledge of the X Front End. Please refer to Chapter 4 in "User's Guide: For the X Front End". Saving Files in Mathematica. --------------------------- Click on the 'File' menu, and then click on 'Save as ...' and give the filename in which you want the current notebook to be saved. You can also save your notebook in other file formats like: Plain Text This saves it as plain text. Font information is not saved. RTF (Rich Text Format) This is the same as plain text, only it allows font information to be saved. Also paragraph breaks are inserted between cells. A file saved in this format can be used by numerous word-processing and page-layout programs. There are other options for saving. Again, more advanced options for saving require more in-depth knowledge of Mathematica X Front end. Please refer to chapter 4 in "User's Guide: For the X Front End".
