Useless Facts

Came across these and found some to be interesting:

  • The naval rank of "Admiral" is derived from the Arabic phrase "amir al bahr", which means "lord of the sea".
  • Blueberry Jelly Bellies were created especially for Ronald Reagan.
  • Joe DiMaggio had more home runs than strikeouts during his career.
  • The Pentagon, in Arlington, Virginia, has twice as many bathrooms as is necessary. When it was built in the 1940s, the state of Virginia still had segregation laws requiring separate toilet facilities for blacks and whites.
  • Clans of long ago that wanted to get rid of their unwanted people without killing them use to burn their houses down - hence the expression "to get fired."
  • Ralph Lauren's original name was Ralph Lifshitz.
  • Chrysler built B-29's that bombed Japan, Mitsubishi built Zeros that tried to shoot them down. Both companies now build cars in a joint plant call Diamond Star.
  • The symbol on the "pound" key (#) is called an octothorpe.
  • The dot over the letter 'i' is called a tittle.
  • Babies are born without knee caps. They don't appear until the child reaches 2-6 years of age.
  • The highest point in Pennsylvania is lower than the lowest point in Colorado.

You can read the whole list here.

Welcome

Greetings!

I have finally created a site template for my web space. I went with this template because I like the outdoors as well as the subtle gradient theme you can see throughout. So far I do not have much posted but things you will eventually find on my site are:

  • links to web sites that I find aesthetically interesting
  • links to articles with new technology
  • links to useful scripts and programs and possibly even my review if I get ambitious
