SERENDIPITY *********** 3657 Green Ash Court, Indianapolis, Indiana 46222, USA "SERENDIPITY" is published once a month by the Sri Lanka Academic Interests Group (SLAIG) and will be available free of charge via electronic communication. For the benefit of those without an e- mail address, a small number of copies will be available in print. Membership of SLAIG is open for anyone interested in cultural, political, economical, and scientific advancement of Sri Lanka. There are no annual membership dues. Guidelines for Authors: Articles submitted for publication in the Serendipity are reviewed by the editorial and reviewing committee. This journal is devoted to articles of the following types: (1) Research papers and expository articles: These are papers of interests to Sri Lankans and could be in any field of study. This also include scholarly communication of ideas and matters related to Sri Lanka. Our readers may be nonexperts, with different back- grounds far from your field of study. Hence you are requested not to use jargons, buzz words, and abbreviations without first expla- -ining them. A short abstract and a list of reference will be part of a good paper. Papers submitted to the "Serendipity" will not be edited except for reformatting and correcting minor typing and/or gramatical mistakes. (2) Book Reviews: We only accept book reviews on books written by Sri Lankans and/or books about Sri Lanka. (3) Letters to Editor: "Serendipity" does not ordinarily publish complaints about articles appeared here. However you're especially encouraged to submit follow-ups, rebuttals, and correspondance concerning articles appeared in the "Serendipity" and/or elsewhere bearing significant interest to our readership. The committiee re- serves the right to edit letters. (4) News, Notices and Membership Information: Manuscripts to be considered for publication should be sent to one of the editors, ( W. Pubudu Dayawansa , Prasad K. Dharmasena , Nimal Gamage , Vicumpriya S. Perera , or Jayadeva Uyangoda), preferably via electronic mail. Manuscripts received will be acknowledged on re- ceipt and shortly after a status report containing the decision of acceptance or rejection will be sent. We anticipate the accept- ance of majority of papers submitted for publication in the "Sere- ndipity". In the rare case of an article being rejected,the author will be provided with a written explanation why the article was rejected. This statement may also include suggestions that will ultimately reverse the decision. Any inquiries concerning a paper that has been accepted for publi- cation should be sent directly to the Managing Editor. Copying and reprinting: Papers and letters submitted for publication will be copyrighted jointly by the author and "serendipity". "Serendipity" claims only a "compilation copyright", and hence there will be no need for a copyright transfer agreement. By submitting a paper to serendipity, authors certify that the manuscript has not been submitted to nor it's under consideration for publication by another journal. If it were, authors further certify that a copyright clearence from that journal or publication has been obtained. We also allow papers app- eared in "serendipity" to be submitted to another journal if the author so desires provided a courtesy mention of "Serendipity" is included with the article. Individual readers of this publication are permitted to make fair use of the material, such as to copy an article for private use. Permission is also granted to quote brief passages from this publi- cation, provided the customary acknowledgment of the source is given. Republication, systematic copying, or multiple copying of any material in this journal is permitted only by the author and "Serendipity".
